For example, if you are looking for a less expensive hotel in Las Vegas , you would look for the hotels that are located off of the strip or you can look at the end of the strip where the Circus Circus is or the Stratosphere these are less expensive than say the Bellagio or the Venetian.
If you are going on vacation on a tropical island choose a hotel that is off the beach rather than right on it. Also becoming more popular these days are vacation rentals which are apartments or bungalows that you can rent but you have to cook and clean. It would be like renting an apartment back home except on vacation. These are less expensive than hotels for sure.
